FOOD / NEWCASTLE : TABLE 1 ESPRESSO

It was way too early in the morning to be making such important life decisions like this. Normally I’m a green tea with breakfast kind of girl but this morning I cried blasphemy, this morning was the exception. I sat there in utter despair knowing I could only pick one - Cherry Ripe, Bounty, Oreo, Mocha, Nutella back to Mocha, toing and froing back and forth, unable to chose only one of the mouth watering smoothies on the list. I could see a table of four inside clinking their smoothie glasses together with massive smiles on their faces and that’s when I locked eyes with what looked like the Bounty smoothie and just like that my decision was made! The first sip was like drinking liquid gold, it was pure coconut chocolate heaven.

I was so distracted by my smoothie choices that I didn't even notice how busy the place was. It was lucky we booked ahead otherwise we definitely wouldn’t have gotten a seat. There were young 20 something hipsters mimicking Pharrels fashion style, mothers having get togethers and even buff gym types coming here before hitting the beach. It was definitely a place that was loved by a broad spectrum of people in Newie.

After gulping down half of my smoothie, breakfast arrived - the Mediterranean Hotpot. Chorizo, semi-dried tomatoes, olives, capsicum, spinach , perfectly cooked poached eggs with a side of sourdough, all of my favourite ingredients served in a small saucepan just like they do it on Masterchef. I packed on as many of the ingredients as I could on the sourdough bread and it was delicious. It was the perfect meal for Bruch o ‘clock.

My friend across from me ordered the T1 Superbowl which was also served in a saucepan and was full of kale, quinoa, sweet potato mash, asparagus, spinach, halloumi and poached eggs. It definitely hit the quota for packing in as many of the hottest super foods as they could in one pan. My friend was definitely satisfied and ate every last bite. I was eyeing off some of the halloumi but it was so delicious she threw a Joey from Friends and did not want to share. I honestly didn’t blame her.

I left knowing that i’d make any excuse to come back for a smoothie but maybe I’ll throw in a 5km jog just before so I don't have such a guilty aftertaste.
